Kentucky Auditor Crit Luallen has been named a 2009 “Public Official of the Year” by Washington D.C. magazine Governing for her positive impact on government in Kentucky.
“Crit Luallen, Kentucky’s auditor of public accounts, has successfully fought corruption and fiscal mismanagement, the capstone to her 35-year career as a versatile problem-solver in state government,” according to the magazine.
Every year since 1994, Governing Magazine has honored individual state and local government officials for outstanding accomplishment by naming them Public Officials of the Year. Recipients include elected, appointed and career officials from every branch of state or local government.
“This is truly an honor and quite a pleasant surprise. I believe in the value of public service and I have worked to build a record of integrity and competence throughout my career,” Luallen said. “But I am also fortunate to have had some wonderful people around me who contributed to any successes I have had.” Luallen’s service began in 1974 as a campaign staff member to Wendell Ford. She served nearly seven years as Secretary of the Governor’s Executive Cabinet, a position similar to chief operating officer.
Elected as Kentucky Auditor in 2003, Luallen is presently the only woman to hold statewide, constitutional office in Kentucky. She won re-election in 2007 and is serving her final term as auditor because of term limits. To read more about Crit Luallen, visit: http://www.critluallen.com/.

It makes me happy to receive through ELECT WOMEN MAGAZINE, the article by Governing Magazine, out of Washington, D.C., naming Crit Luallen the Public Offical of the Year for 2009.
Having met Crit in 2004 (when my daughter ran for the Kentucky State Senate) character, honesty and sincerity were instantly evident.
After hearing Crit speak at a fund raiser for my daughter, I could only think the same credentials would be brought to our State if she were elected.
Our whole country needs these kind of women in government and hopefully more women will feel the confidence and desire to make this a better state for their children and families. Women are WORTHY, and
need to be in a decision making position of their choice.
Mothers, instill confidence in your children and educate them on current events. They cannot even consider this direction if they are not familiar with the possibilities they could persue and achieve..
