Nude Model Defeats Martha Coakley

Jan 19th, 2010 | By admin | Category: Must Reads, Politics & Campaign Stories

hunkFormer Cosmopolitan centerfold, Massashusetts Senator Scott Brown has defeated Attorney General Martha Coakley in the special election Tuesday to fill the vacant U.S. Senate seat that was previously held by Edward Kennedy.  Martha Coakley was defeated by a margin of 46% to 53%.  She called Scott Brown at approximately 9:21 p.m. to concede the election.

In 1982 Scott Brown posed completely nude and was featured in the Cosmopolitan centerfold spread.  It is safe to say that if a woman candidate were known to have posed nude in a major magazine, her political career would have been over before it started.

So now the leading man will take his place in the U.S. Senate, vowing to vote against any and all health care reform and against equal rights for gay Americans.  When asked about his nude spread in Cosmo, Brown remarked “I’m not ashamed of my body.”

Newsweek’s Katie Connolley had this to say about Brown’s escapades, “Although a nude centerfold might not kill a female politician’s career, it would most certainly prompt questions about her character. Was she unacceptably promiscuous? Did she have a wild, compromising youth? While we scoff at the exploits of young men─they’re allowed to be “footloose and carefree”─women are rarely afforded that luxury. For Brown, who just turned 50, it’s a case of “boys will be boys.”

Take the ElectWomen poll – if a woman posed nude in a national magazine, would she have a chance of being elected?

  1. Ours are God given bodies. A real Christian would not expose their bodies for money as this person has done. That is certainly not what God intended. How could we possibly respect this person’s voice in any vote. Seems everything, including our souls, are for sale. What does this example show us of any
future thoughts or important decisions he may be asked to make for the good of our country.
Greed is in unbelievable abundance and has caused much harm to this great United States of America. I am embarrassed at the lies and lack of respect being shown our President by our fellow countrymen and women. Where are their loyalties? Give me one good example of anyone better able or even slightly capable of cleaning up the mess. It is a bunch of arm chair referees we are hearing from who could
never speak intelligently regarding this difficult job he has. Shame on all of you; you know who you are.

  2. Wow! Eww! I cannot believe this!

  3. [...] From ElectWomen: In 1982 Scott Brown posed completely nude and was featured in the Cosmopolitan centerfold spread…. [...]

  4. I think this is distasteful, but you know what–she ran a crappy campaign and appeared entirely out of touch. I’m pissed at my party for allowing this fiasco to happen.

  5. Does anyone remember Mayor Carmen Kontur-Gronquist of Arlington, Oregon who was stripped of her duties because of her “racy” photos? There is clearly a double standard in American society.

  6. Let’s see, Martha Coakley graduated with honors, was a District Attorney and also an Attorney General and Scott Brown was a dynamite hunk. No contest, I guess the people voted with their libidos and instead of their brains. They sure couldn’t have been thinking about the good of the people who need health care. I can’t believe the voters could get so mad about Martha Coakley’s campaign that they would elect a man with no qualifications. Where is the outrage from the religious right ?

  7. Martha Coakley lost because she ran a horrid campaign, she flip flopped on the major issue of the health care sham bill, and she thought that hugging on Mr. Obama and attending a pharma lobbyist event the night before the election was a good idea….NOT. She could not done anything more detrimental to her campaign in my opinion.

Martha Coakley would have won if she had said that she was going to do the right thing by her constituents and vote NO on the health care sham. Oh, and perhaps avoiding those photo ops with Mr. Obama….

Women, if they want to win elections, must be strategic and run harder and faster than men. And even then, as evidenced by what happened to Hillary Rodham Clinton, they can have their victories stolen from them. Martha Coakley just looked like Nancy Pelosi and to this American there is nothing uglier. I don’t care if Mr. Brown goes to Washington bare ass naked I was proud to see him win and feel confident that America is better protected with him as the Senator from MA.

Also, for the record, Mr. Brown posed prior to taking public office so there are no double standards involved here in regards to the Mayor Carmen Kontur-Gronquist case.

  8. Maybe ALL candidates should be required to pose nude. Then we’d see who’s REALLY serious about politics.

I’m still convinced that this country is more “anti-women” than it is “anti-black” (but not by much). By all rights, it should have been Hillary in the White House. And we would probably have had a health care plan by now.

    Ugh.
